On May 28th, the Center of Investigation for Ecosystems for the Patagonia (CIEP) analyzed samples extracted from Futaleufú, confirming “the presence of abundant diatoms from the gender Didymosphenia sp.” in more than 56 kms of the river. Mientras quien escribe verificaba zonas del río Limay, especialmente en Piedra del Águila y pescaba en la 10ª Región Chilena, mi amigo e integrante del grupo de relevamientos, Germán Alonso lo hacía un poco más arriba. El valle del Río Claro de San Fernando es una suma gigante de atractivos naturales. Tiene ese aire cansino del campo chileno de hace un siglo, con sus casas de adobe y sus pircas, en medio de plantaciones de olivos y cerezos. El camino, de muy buena factura, es una de las pocas señas de que está incorporado al progreso, tal vez un poco a regañadientes de la linda gente que lo habita.
Nadie sabe por qué casualidad divina está allí el río Claro. En su prístino curso por un cajón 60 metros más alto, sólo 350 metros lo separan de caer al Tinguiririca en el sector La Rufina
